National
Child Protection Training Initiative
The LCMS has provided resources to help Lutheran congregations and schools protect the children in their care.
In response to 2019 Resolution 1-07A, “To Promote Adoption of Policies that Continue Vigilance in Child Protection,” The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) has provided resources to help Lutheran congregations and schools protect the children in their care.
One of these resources is MinistrySafe, a national organization that equips congregations, schools and other ministry programs to better protect children from sexual abuse. The LCMS Office of National Mission has identified MinistrySafe as a valuable resource for LCMS districts and congregations. Through this resource, LCMS church workers and educators can receive video-based training on how to screen potential employees and how to identify the signs of sexual abuse.
In 2023, the LCMS covered the full cost for any LCMS church, school or camp to utilize MinistrySafe. Starting in July 2024, the LCMS and its districts will share this cost in order to continue to provide this resource to users free of charge through June 2025.
Through MinistrySafe and another resource, Protect My Ministry, LCMS congregations and schools can obtain background checks at a discounted cost.
