Soldiers of the Cross Grants
This program delivers emergency support to rostered church workers in crisis.
Since 2004, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s (LCMS) Soldiers of the Cross program has delivered emergency financial support and pastoral care to rostered professional church workers in crisis. Through this partnership between LCMS districts and the LCMS Office of National Mission, an ordained or commissioned minister can apply for a small grant to help cover emergency expenses, such as an unexpected housing crisis or extensive medical bills not covered by insurance.
In February 2024, a church worker experiencing difficulties received a grant through Soldiers of the Cross and shared the following: “First, let me deeply thank you for your generosity. The money will help tremendously as I and my family transition through this challenge. I don’t always understand why, but I have faith that God will use this to better His kingdom. Second, let me share that while the money is truly helpful, what is just as important to me is the feeling of support and encouragement that this grant communicates. I know I am one of many working for Christ’s message to be shared. I have felt the support of my immediate church and school, but it is so uplifting to feel a greater bond with the community of Christ. Thank you for helping me experience that through this generosity.”
